Established in 1974, Bandipur is among the first national parks in Karnataka.
Bandipur National Park is not only about wildlife; it also has historical and cultural significance. The park area was once a private hunting reserve for the Maharajas of Mysore.
In 1983, Nagarhole Forest was renamed Rajiv Gandhi National Park in memory of the former Indian Prime Minister.
